Hi, my name is Michael England. I started playing piano at age 5 and guitar at age 14. By the time I was 15 I had bands sneaking me into the back door of clubs to play with them. After a couple of years of that I was 17 years old and just out of high school. I didn't want to get a "regular" job so I started a business teaching guitar, bass, drums, and piano. I also played with a lot of cover bands. I was playing as many as 4 nights a week with different local bands. I would end up being the "on call" guitarist playing everything from Country to Rock to Blues. (I grew up in Louisiana What else would you expect?) It was a lot of fun though. I ended up moving to Dallas, Texas to pursue original music with a friend of mine. We wrote a ton of music and hit the college scene playing in front of some nice crowds. But, the being homeless and living out of a van (I know...down by the river. :) ) got old. We had some success with the college scene and with the internet starting to get popular but it just got tiring. It's not my kind of lifestyle. So, I got out of that and did a good bit of studio work over the years. I also worked as a producer/engineer. You might have even heard things I've played on or recorded and not even known it. A couple of examples off the top of my head...I remember doing a session one time for Bowling for Soup. They were an up and coming band doing their first major label album. I was the assistant engineer on that one. "Let's do it for Johnny." Those guys were hilarious. So, we are sitting in the studio recording this song "All figured out". Jaret says "We really want some serious 'Red-Neck' guitar on this song." I have no idea how I got talked into being the 'Red-Neck' guitar guy. But, hey it was fun. So, a lot of the guitar on that song was done by me. I also played on and engineered/mixed the Cross Canadian Ragweed album called Highway 377. I've played with a good number of awesome guitarists and bands over the years. I also have music knowledge as well though. I have a college level understanding of music orchestration and composition.
So, how did I get here? I'm very passionate about music and playing guitar, recording, etc. But, the most important thing I remember over the years is people asking "How can I learn to play like that?" I've looked around online and I see nothing that works as well as my system of teaching I invented about 17 years ago. So, I finally decided to devote my time to teaching others to play the guitar and making this the best online guitar learning "community" on the internet. My goal is to make this a thriving community where everyone can have fun and learn to play guitar.
